Vandalism at Black Sandy State Park - Public Urged to Call TIPMONT with Information; Reward Offered
(Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) is asking the public to help provide information on a case of vandalism at Black Sandy State Park in Helena.
Over the weekend, someone from the public anonymously reported the incident to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks through the TIPMONT vandalism line.
The incident occurred sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Several large shipping pallets were dumped in a campsite, large branches from the willow trees were cut down, various items of litter were dispersed throughout the campground, a fence rail had been removed and partially burned, a sign was forcibly removed and discarded, burned debris was also scattered around the area.
“The public can enjoy this great state park during the off season, but it’s sad that vandals have come in here and damaged the property,” said Craig Marr, Park Manager for Black Sandy State Park. “We now have to spend our resources fixing these things instead of using that funding on park maintenance and improvements that benefit the public.”
“This is an act of vandalism – plain and simple,” said Game Warden Sergeant Dave Loewen. “If you’ve seen anything or anyone suspicious possibly related to this incident, give us a call.”

Individuals providing information that leads to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons involved are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
Black Sandy State Park is just north of Helena and it saw more than 48,000 visitors in the 2012 summer season (May – August), up 2% over the previous year. This state park is located on the shore of Hauser Lake and offers camping, swimming, year-round fishing, boating and hiking.
