Volunteer for 'National Public Lands Day' at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park - Saturday, September 28 at 9am
(Whitehall, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today:
What: Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is having a volunteer day for National Trails Day focused on cave cleaning. Over 50,000 people pass through the cave each year and despite our best efforts debris and other materials find their way into the cave hindering growth and even damaging the cave formations in some instances. Lewis & Clark Caverns relies on volunteer efforts to help fight the problems that these contaminants create. National Public Lands Day provides people a unique opportunity to see the cave. You will get a chance to experience the cave in a way that regular tours do not as you work very close to the formations that visitors generally see from the trail.
Check-in starts at 9AM followed by a cave ethics presentation and we will be in the cave from 10am to 1pm. Afterwards lunch will be provided by the park followed up by an interpretive program on caves.
Pre-registration is required, so please call us at the park to sign up for this unique cave experience. (406) 287-3541
National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. There are events all across Montana and the nation to help improve the lands that belong to all of us. This is a great chance for everyone to give back a little to the places we get to recreate.
When: Saturday, September 28, 9am-2:30pm
Where: Meet at the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Main Visitor Center near the park entrance.
