Star Gazing and Greer Gulch Loop Hike Highlight Labor Day Weekend Activities At Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park -August 29 & 30

(Whitehall, MT) –Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) hosts "Star Gazing Under the Caverns Sky" and a Greer Gulch Loop Hike on Friday and Saturday, August 29 and 30.

Friday, August 29th at 8pm, join us for "Star Gazing Under the Caverns Sky" presented by Tom Satterly. Enjoy a stellar night with stargazing and a family campout.  Using several telescopes, Satterly along with U of M Western Environmental Sciences Department members, Sheila Roberts and Craig Zaspel, present their interpretation of the evening sky. Satterly will share much of his knowledge and boundless enthusiasm for the celestial bodies of the night sky.

Come early to set up camp before the scheduled program, which will last well into the late hours of the night. Group camping will be included and a pancake breakfast provided for the reservation fee ($15). Pre-registration is REQUIRED for the pancake breakfast. What: "Star Gazing Under the Caverns Sky" 
When: Friday, August 29 at 8pm
Where: Campground Amphitheater, Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park

On Saturday, August 30 at 8:30am, Our final Naturalist Hike of 2014 features the park's most popular trail, the Greer Gulch Loop. This 2 mile loop picks up and loses 400 feet of elevation and visits most of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park’s diverse habitats. Ranger Tom Forwood will point out changes in late season foliage and search for the first wave of migrating bird species as well as other unusual plants, birds and mammals along the way. Bring water, good footwear, camera, sunscreen and binoculars for a pleasant 3 hour hike.


What: Greer Gulch Loop Hike
When: Saturday, August 30 at 8:30am
Where: Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Main (lower) Visitor Center

These programs are free to Montana residents and those registered to camp that evening in the park's campground.  There is a $5 per vehicle entrance fee for any non-residents who would like to attend.  For more information, contact Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park at (406) 287-3541.
