Decision Notice Issued for Proposed Improvement Project at Giant Springs State Park

(Great Falls, MT) – Montana State Parks ( has issued a decision notice for a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for a proposed Equipment/Maintenance Building at Giant Springs State Park in Great Falls, MT.

The decision notice recommends moving forward with construction of a 24’x40’ concrete pad and post frame building located on the east side of the Giant Springs Ranger Station. At present, maintenance storage does not adequately meet current demands. The new equipment/maintenance building will provide much needed storage space for grounds tools and maintenance equipment. The building will also house oil containment boom equipment for Calumet Specialty Products, enabling Calumet to quickly deploy the boom into the river in the event of a spill.

A 30-day public comment period was open from March 14 through April 14, 2017. No comments were received. By notification of this decision notice, the draft environmental assessment is hereby made the final EA.

It was determined that the proposed action would have no significant effects on the human or physical environment. Therefore, an environmental impact statement will not be prepared.
