Common Loons Presentation at Placid Lake State Park - Saturday, June 16 at 7pm
(Seeley Lake, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) will host Common Loons with Keely Benson at Placid Lake State Park on Saturday, June 16 at 7:00 pm.
Join Keely Benson as she shares her experiences as a “Loon Ranger” with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Benson will discuss the progress that’s been made toward returning Common Loon populations to the Seeley-Swan Valley, including her work in banding operations to track these elusive birds. She will share knowledge about loons’ favorite summer and winter spots, their nesting and chicks, and about how long you’ll have a chance to catch a glimpse of them in Placid Lake!
Keely Benson is the non-game intern for the Seeley Lake area, but the locals refer to her as “The Loon Ranger.” Keely is from Plains, Montana, and this is her third year working for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. She studies wildlife biology at the University of Montana and says that growing up hunting, fishing, and playing outdoors instilled in her a deep love of wildlife and the natural environment.
The presentation will take place at the group-use picnic area behind site #22. For more information call the park office at (406) 677-8604.
