Montana State Parks Seeks Public Comment On Hell Creek State Park Master Site/Management Plan -Comments due by Wednesday, November 25 at 5pm

(Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks ( announced today that it is seeking public comment on the Hell Creek State Park Draft Master Site/Management Plan. Public Comments are due by Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 5pm. Hell Creek State Park is an important recreation area located on the Fort Peck Reservoir, near Jordan, MT. The area is heavily used for camping, fishing, and recreation on the reservoir. As the popularity of the park has grown, so has the demand on natural resources, infrastructure and agency management. Montana State Parks developed the draft site/management plan in order to identify management and infrastructure challenges, and evaluate the Division’s role in future management of the site. On October 15, 2015, the Montana State Parks & Recreation Board approved the draft site/management plan to be submitted for public comment. The draft plan proposes three options for consideration. • Option #1: Address the existing site infrastructure needs, make priority improvements and continue to manage the site and concession beyond the current Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) Agreement end date of April 2021 with a new contract or extension. This is the preferred alternative. • Option #2: Address the existing site infrastructure needs, make priority improvements and continue to manage a modified site boundary beyond the current ACOE Agreement end date of April 2021. In this option, Montana State Parks would relinquish the management of the concession operations to the ACOE • In Option #3: Montana State Parks would return the site to the ACOE in April 2021 or sooner, according to the terms of the ACOE-State of Montana Agreement. The Division would make only minimal infrastructure improvements until the end of the agreement period.
