(Glendive, MT) - Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today that a Decision Notice has been issued on the Environmental Assessment (EA) for construction of the Paramount Trail at Makoshika State Park in Glendive. The decision is to proceed with the construction of the full scope of the Paramount Trail. By notification of this Decision Notice, the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) is hereby made the Final EA. The proposed trail is a safe recreational trail route connecting the existing Glendive City trail system to the Cains Coulee Campground over a mile within Makoshika State Park. The trail will run along the north and east side of the Makoshika Park Road and be a safe route for non-motorized visitors. The initial phase of the proposed project will focus developing the first ¼ mile of the trail and providing a continuation to the city trail where bicyclists and pedestrians are crossing paths which currently is creating safety concerns. Successive phases will continue to expand the path’s length until the 1.18 mile long trail is completed. Funding for the initial phase of the trail is provided by the organization, Friends of Makoshika, and funded through the Recreation Trails Program ( http://stateparks.mt.gov/recreation/recTrailsProgram.html ) a federal grant program. The public comment process for the proposed project was from January 14, 2014 through February 14, 2014. Nine public comments were received, eight in favor of the proposed action and one comment against.
