(Dillon, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) is seeking public comment on a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for a proposed Fire Alarm System Upgrade at Bannack State Park near Dillon, MT. Comments accepted through Friday, April 20, 2018 at 5pm. The proposed project would replace the existing system with a reliable/modern fire alarm system. The new system would provide coverage to the 65 primary structures within the Bannack townsite including the Hendrick’s Mill. The mill, which is an important part of the Bannack story, presently has no fire alarm coverage. The existing fire alarm system which was installed in the 1980s has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be completely replaced as components have become obsolete and difficult to replace. The current system was also compromised by the historic flood event of 2013. The outdated fire alarm system makes the Bannack townsite susceptible to major fire damage, which could result in the loss of historic structures.
