(Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) is seeking public comment on the current cycle of Off-Highway Vehicle grant application funding requests. For the current OHV grant cycle 18 applications were received with requests for funding totaling $312,180, but only $180,000 in funding is available to be awarded. The OHV grant program projects can include: maintenance of existing OHV trails, signs, ethics education, noxious weed control, safety and mapping efforts, and related projects. The proposed allocation of grant funds to successful applicants is based on individual application scores and input from the citizen members of the Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Committee (OHVAC). The public can view the grant applications at FWP Headquarters (Montana State Parks Division) at 1420 E. 6th Avenue in Helena (406) 444-3750 or by contacting Jim Norlander, OHV Program Manager for Montana State Parks at firstname.lastname@example.org or (406) 444-7642. The funds that support the OHV program are appropriated by the state legislature and are derived from gas tax and decal fees related to OHV use and registrations in Montana.
