Montana State Parks Employees Honored

Montana State Parks staff members received recognition this fall by Fish, Wildlife & Parks Agency Director Joe Maurier. "FWP has some of the most talented and dedicated employees in state government," Maurier said. "We're proud of this group and all they've achieved."

Roger Semler, Montana State Parks' Assistant Administrator was recognized as a Professional of the Year and a Governor's Award Recipient for his work ethic, dedication and professionalism. In 2011, Roger was instrumental in revising the state parks fee rule, re-organizing the fishing access program, improving public safety in Montana State Parks with the Park Warden program and improving operational policies.

Beth Shumate, Montana State Parks' Trails Grant Coordinator, was recognized with a Special Achievement Award for providing fresh direction and professionalism in the Recreation Trails Program (RTP). Beth is credited for making the RTP funding a reality for Montana communities.

Dave Bennetts, Montana State Park Manager for Whitefish Lake, Les Mason, Logan and Thompson Falls, was recognized with an Innovative Thinker Award. Dave has stretched limited resources and increased revenues through innovations. He has improved Park enterprise account sales, developed the first firewood collection permit, secured a grant for hazard fuels mitigation, secured a funding increase from Avista Utilities for management of Thompson Falls State Park and developed a customized budget tracking program.
