We are a proven economic engine to Montana, with residents and out of state visitors bringing in $289 million dollars to local economies in 2010, and in the process creating nearly 1,600 tourism related jobs (grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, motels and more) according to an economic impact survey conducted by University of Montana's Bureau of Business and Economic Research (December 2010).
We administer 7 national historic landmark sites and 10 national register of historic places. Montanans and visitors to our state can walk in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark, discover Montana's Jurassic Park, explore natural geologic wonders, experience rich Native American culture, learn about our mining and territorial history, enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, tubing, floating and more with family and friends.
More than 20,000 Montana school children participated in interpretive programs at state parks. (FWP 2011 Annual Report)
More than 1,304 dedicated volunteers provided 46,748 hours in Montana State Parks in 2011 as campground hosts, visitor center attendants, naturalists, and assistants on special projects.
