Glendive, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today that the road at the base of the switchbacks will be closed to motorized vehicles due to inclement weather. The switchbacks and the top of the park will remain closed to motorized traffic until conditions improve and the roadway is clear of ice and snow. State Parks announced today that Special Holiday Candlelight Tours will be offered this holiday season at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park on Dec. 14 & 15, Dec. 21 & 22 and Dec. 27, 28 & 29.
Tour times: 9:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 11:45 a.m.
12:30 p.m., 1:15 p.m., and 2:00 p.m., 2:45 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale on Monday, Dec. 2. The public can purchase tickets by calling the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park office at (406) 287-3541, during business hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

AmeriCorps (americorps.gov) is a national service program that offers members the opportunity to gain job skills, earn up to $5,550 for college or to pay off student loans while giving back to local communities.

(Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today that public comment is being sought on the proposed Commercial Use Permit Fee Rule. The current rule was adopted by the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission in December 2011 and is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2013. The Parks Division seeks to adopt a state parks specific Commercial Use Permit Fee Rule, which maintains the current fees with no proposed changes. (Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) announced today that 2013 visitation is up 5% over the 2012 summer season, making it the best summer season on record, with a total of 1,574, 603 visits from May through September.
In addition, Montana State Parks summer season visitation is up 12% over a 3-year trend (2011-2013) and up 8% over a 5-year trend (2009-2013). Montana has 54 state parks.

Helena, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) invites the media and the public to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Highwood pedestrian bridge and non-motorized trail on Friday, November 8 at 12:30pm.
The Pedestrian Committee of the Highwood Commercial Club will host the ribbon cutting ceremony. The pedestrian bridge was developed with $90,000 in federal grant funding from the Recreational Trails Program that is administered by Montana State Parks.
